Hi, I'm Dr. Gregorios Katsios, a Senior NLP Research Scientist at Leidos. I hold a PhD in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where I was advised by Dr. Tomek Strzalkowski. My expertise lies in Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning, particularly focusing on Generative AI. My recent projects include text generation, evaluation methodologies, social media analytics, agenda detection, and authorship attribution & privacy. I have developed advanced machine learning models for various research projects, including those sponsored by DARPA, IARPA, AFRL, and ONR. I have published in top NLP conferences and have experience in authoring research grant proposals.

Below is a deeper dive into my professional work and personal interests.

My research centers on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning, with a particular emphasis on Generative AI. I specialize in developing and applying algorithms in Computational Sociolinguistics, where sociolinguistics intersects with statistical NLP. I am also deeply interested in Cybersecurity.

Recently, I have worked on a range of projects including text generation, evaluation methodologies, social media analytics, agenda detection, and authorship attribution and privacy. I have been involved in innovative initiatives such as employing rhetorical and stylistic features to identify authors while simultaneously developing techniques to protect their identities. Another notable project involved agenda detection in social media during the 2022 French presidential elections, analyzing actively promoted agendas to gain insights into political communication strategies.

Previously, I worked on simulating diffusion processes in online social networks to study information spread and enhanced sentiment extraction methods, significantly improving recall in determining sentiment towards various targets.

My goal is to continue advancing NLP and machine learning, contributing to both academic knowledge and practical applications. I hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an M.S. in Computer Science from SUNY Albany, and a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Peloponnese, Greece.

Outside of my professional work, I am an avid kayaker and have embarked on numerous trips exploring the rivers and lakes of the East Coast. I find rivers particularly captivating due to their winding routes and the picturesque way trees arch over the water, creating breathtaking scenes. In addition to kayaking, I enjoy snowboarding and am continually honing my skills on the slopes.
